September was a friend-rush month.
I got to see many friends who were visiting Maui.
I felt so grateful that these people remembered me despite of the fact that we hadn't seen each other for awhile. They made effort to contact me, and made time to see me during their Maui visit.
There are so many people on this earth, yet our paths have crossed. If each one of us is a dot, our dots made a line together. When I die, if I could look at these lines from some far perspective, I wonder what drawing I would see.
The photo above was taken in front of the Kahului Airport with Kelsey. She and I met this past July in Big Island. This young college student has many interesting insights. I wish her all the best for her future endeavor.
9月はお友だちラッシュの月でした。
普段マウイに住んでいないお友達が沢山、マウイを訪れてくれた月という意味で。
普段なかなか出会えない人たちが、私のことを覚えてくれていて、わざわざ連絡を取ってくれて、会いたいと言ってくれること。何て有り難いことなのだろうと思いました。この世界に沢山の人がいる中、私たちの道がひょんなことから交差して、出会いというものができました。もし私たち一人一人が点だとしたら、出会ったことで二つの点の間に線が描かれたわけですね。その線を人生の最後にどこか遠くの視点から見ることが出来たなら、どんな絵を描いているのでしょう。
上の写真はこの前の７月にハワイ島で出会ったケルシー。まだ20代前半の大学生の彼女だけど、色々考えて色々感じているしっかり者。これからも逞しく大きくなっていってください。
Then I saw two Japanese friends, Motoko and Kiiko.
I met Motoko about 13 years ago here on Maui through my dance teacher Suga. I met Kiiko through Motoko this time. Motoko said, "Wow, Akari, you've grown up!" Well, I was freshly out of high school when I first met her. We have not seen each other since then, so as you can imagine, it was a great reunion! She knew that Suga passed away recently. I took Motoko to Suga's "grave" on top of Haleakala. We chatted a lot to catch up with each other's lives. The time I had with these wonderful ladies went by so quickly, and I felt sad when we said see you again.
それから素子さんと紀伊子さんにも会いました。
素子さんには、須賀先生を通して13年前にマウイで出会いました。それからお互いに一度も顔を会わせていないので、じつに13年振りの再会でした！「あかりちゃん、大きくなったね〜」と言っていただきました。（会った頃は高校を出たての頃だったのでね。）紀伊子さんには、この度、素子さんを通して初めてお会いしました。素子さんも須賀先生が近年亡くなったことはご存知だったので、お二人をハレアカラのてっぺんにある先生の「お墓」にお連れしました。沢山おしゃべりをして、お互いの近況報告をしました。すてきなお姉さまがた二人との時間はあっと言う間に過ぎていき、バイバイを言うときはとても名残惜しかったです。
At the end of September, a great sitar maestro Shubhendra Rao and his wife Saskia Rao De Hass who is also well known as virtuoso cellist and composer originally from the Netherlands, along with their tabla player, Harshad Kanetkar came came to Maui as a part of their U.S. tour.
I met Shubhendra in Australia in 2008 through my ex. I was grateful that Shubhendra still contacted me although my ex and I are no longer together and made time to hang out. When I honestly thanked him for his friendship, he said, "Friends are friends no matter what." I indeed have met many wonderful people through my ex, and if anything to be thankful, that's truly one of treasures I received from the relationship.
9月の終わりには、有名なシタール奏者であるシュベンドラ・ラオさんと、彼の奥さんであり有名なチェロ奏者（もともとオランダ出身）であるサスキア・ラオ・デ・ハスさん、そして彼らの伴奏者としてタブラ奏者のハーシャド・カネトカーが、彼らのアメリカツアーの一部としてマウイに来られました。
シュベンドラさんに初めて会ったのは、2008年に元旦那のツアーに付いてオーストラリアへ行ったときのことでした。もう旦那とは一緒ではないというのに、わざわざ連絡をしてくださり、一緒にご飯を食べる時間をつくってくださって、有り難いなと思いました。そのことを正直に伝えると、「友だちは何があっても友だちだからね」とのこと。確かに元旦那を通して沢山の素晴らしい人たちに出会うことができました。それには（も？）感謝しています。
My heart was soaked and fulfilled in their beautiful tunes. What a treat it was to listen/watch their performance. I feel so much respect toward artists who kindle people's hearts through their gift which comes from their dedication to the art forms. Mahalo to Shubhendra Rao and Saskia Rao de Haas.
彼らの美しい音色に心は浸され、満たされました。彼らの演奏を生で聴けて光栄でした。芸術の分野は何であれ、それぞれの分野で切磋琢磨し、技を磨き、それを人々とシェアすることで人々の心に日を灯していく、そんな芸術家達を尊敬します。シュベンドラとサスキア、素晴らしい演奏をありがとう！
