Photo Diary - September 9

A lilikoi (passion fruit) vine was reaching to the eaves of my front door.
I thought that it would be wonderful to be able to harvest lilikoi right out side of my door, but in the end, it wasn't an ideal place, so I changes its course.

I was mesmerized by this metallic looking coil the vine created.
Isn't nature amazing?

One weekend, Sarala and her family went to camping, so I was asked to take her dogs to the beach. I was glad to be asked because I got to go to the beach. Although I live on Maui, I don't go to beaches that often. If I had time to go to beaches, I preferred to practice dancing in the studio. That's how I felt during the summer. But I should attempt to go more often actually - the ocean is so healing.

The bigger dog is Buster and he is a grandpa dog. The dog next to him is Roxy who is still a puppy (but she has grown so much since she first came to the house). Both of them love tennis balls. When I throw one in the ocean, they swim gracefully to get it and bring it back. In this photo, Buster buried the ball, so Roxy was waiting patiently for it to be unearthed again :) Both are very good dogs.

I love the views from Hali`imaile Road.

My Japanese friend Riuko invited me for a dinner one night.
She had this really fun thing - a Nagashi Somen machine.
In Japan, we have tradition of putting water and cooked somen (a type of noodle) in half-cut bamboo which is placed in angle, and of course with gravity, the noodle and water go down. People stand by the bamboo to catch the noodle with chopsticks and eat. Uncatched somen go into the bucket placed at the end of the bamboo, so they are not wasted. This machine provides you with an alternative experience for that. It is battery powered.

Abiu - it's like Jello made by nature.

I don't think you would see this view in a big city.

Bye-bye, Sun! Thank you for this beautiful day.

One of my favorite picture books.
Every year, I read this to my students.

If you go to the upcountry farmers' market and have not tried this purple potato and coconut cake, you are missing something so wonderful in life ;)
