In August, I had a great honor to attend Vishnu Tattva Das's weekend Odissi dance workshop here on Maui. I was also able to take some private lessons with him.
He is a remarkably elegant, strong, genuine Odissi dancer whom many, including my immediate dance teacher Sarala Dandekar, admire. Sarala and Vishnu studied together with Jhelum-tai and Guruji (Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra) in India.
His each movement is like melting butter with the heart-warming flavor. Once you lay your eyes on his dance, I would guarantee that you will be spellbound.

Whenever I receive guidance from masters such as Jhelum-tai, Vishnu, and Sarala, I feel tremendous blessings and thank my fortune to have met such high caliber performers/teachers. Their knowledge is vast, and they love for Odissi is profound. When I am in their class, I am like an infant who is trying to drink every bit of mother's milk. I want to absorb as much teaching as I can. I am all ears and eyes. However, unfortunately, there is limit to my ability to capture every moment, and I sometimes (well to be honest, often) forget what I have learned. But what astonishes me is that the forgotten teachings suddenly surface time to time. It is as if seeds that were planted in me sprout when the conditions are right, namely when I practice enough :)

8月に、ヴィシュヌ・タットヴァ・ダス先生の週末ワークショップ（クラス）があり、光栄なことに受けてきました。また、プライベートレッスンもいくつか教えて頂きました。
彼は本当に優美であり、強くあり、心から真摯に踊られる踊り手です。私の直（じき）の先生であるサララ・ダンデカー先生を含め、沢山の人が称賛しています。サララ先生とヴィシュヌ先生は同時期に、インドでジェーラム先生と故グル・ケルチャラン・モハパトラ大先生のもとでオディッシィダンスを学びました。
ヴィシュヌ先生の一つ一つの動きは、まるで溶けてゆくバターのように滑らかで、心が温められる朗らかな香りを孕んでいます。一度彼の踊りを目のあたりにしたら、まるで呪文でもかけられたかのように目が離せなくなることでしょう。

いつでも、サララ先生、ヴィシュヌ先生、ジェーラム先生などのマスター達に教わるとき、深い祝福を与えられていることを感じます。このような素晴らしい先生たちに出会えたことを本当に有り難く思います。彼らの知識は広く、彼らのオディッシィダンスに対する愛は深いものです。彼らのクラスを受けているときの私は、お母さんのお乳を一滴たりとも無駄にせずに飲まんとする赤子のようです。全ての教えをしっかりと受け取りたいのです。しかし残念なことに私の記憶力には限界があり、クラスの全てを詳しく覚えていられず、時々は（と言うか頻繁に）学んだ内容を忘れてしまいます。しかしですね、面白いのが、彼らに教わったけれでもすっかり忘れてしまっていたことが、後々ひょっと急に顔を出すのです。まるで先生方が植えてくださった種が、私の中で準備が出来た時に（つまり十分に練習をしたときに）芽を出すように。

Sarala's dog, Roxy looked like she wanted to come into the studio, but she knew she wasn't allowed :)
サララの犬、ロクシーもスタジオに入りたそうにしていましたけど、入っちゃいけないことは分かっているので、辛抱していました。
