One Year Anniversary of Suga's Passing 須賀先生の一周忌

June 1st was my dear teacher, Suga Kunitomo's one year anniversary of passing. The Maui Izanai Yosakoi dancers and her close friends from Maui gathered together and visited the summit of Haleakala where she loved the most, and where we scattered her ashes.

6月1日は須賀先生の一周忌でした。マウイのイザナイよさこいダンサーズと、須賀先生のことを長年知っていた友人達でハレアカラのてっぺんに行ってきました。先生の大好きな場所でしたし、先生の遺灰も撒いたところですからね。

It was a great weather -very clear.

とても晴れ渡っていました。

We put flowers and a lei to show her our love, and then we took them home after our prayers.

先生、愛してるよってお花を飾って、お祈りしてからちゃんと持ち帰りました。

Our friend, Tara brought rasberries for us to eat. Yum, yum, yum.
It looks like dango (Japanese mochi balls) when I stick them like this.

タラちゃんがブルーベリーをおやつに持ってきてくれていました。おいしかったなり。
こうやって刺してみると団子三兄弟みたいだね。

Suga-sensei, we're here doing our best and enjoying life! Watch over us :)
先生、私たちは楽しみながらがんばるからね〜。見ててね〜。

Jazmyne Senior Thesis Video ジャズミンの卒論作品

Do you remember one of the past blog entries titled, "Jazmyne's Dance Project"?
The video is available now. (I appear around 9:52.)
We had only one chance to shoot it :)
It is a great art piece, and I am very happy for Jazmybe making one of dreams come true and for expressing herself through a medium she found to be exciting and fulfilling.

「ジャズミンのダンスプロジェクト」と題された１月にポストしたブログエントリー、覚えてらっしゃいます？
そのビデオが出来あがりました。
一回しか踊る時間がなかったので、これワンショットで出来てます。
完成度の高い芸術作品となりました。（私は9:52くらいから出てきます。）ジャズミンががんばって全て計画して作りました。あっぱれ！
ダンスという彼女にとってエキサイティングで充実感を与えてくれる表現手段を使い、一つの夢を実現させた彼女を誇りに思います。

Alapadma アラパドマ

In classical dance forms, one of many mudra is called Alapadma.
It shows a fully blossomed lotus flower.
You can view and learn more about it here.

インド舞踊にはムドラという手と指で表す印があります。
沢山あるうちの一つがアラパドマです。
咲いた状態の蓮の花を表しています。
ここにもう少し詳しく書かれています。

蓮の花を見る度に、私の心もこのように開いていますようにと思います。

My Earrings Organizer イヤリングオーガナイザー

I could not throw away this box that contained Kombu (seaweed).

It was too nice to throw it away.

友人がくれたおきな昆布の入っていた箱を捨てられずにいました。

捨てるにはもったいないなと思って。

So, I turned it into an earrings organizer.

Yasmina helped me.

そこでイヤリングオーガナイザーを作りました。

ヤスミナが手伝ってくれました。

I can see them all at once. I am loving it.

一目でペアが見つかるので、重宝しています。

Things That Happened in May 5月に起こったこと

I saw a handsome chameleon.

ハンサムなカメレオンを見かけたり。

I was mesmerized by these red flowers and thinking,

"My heart fully blossoms when I think of you - Creator."

赤い花に見惚れて、

「あなたのことを想う度に、 心がふっくらと咲きます。神さま。」

と思ってみたり。

Being surrounded by the feeling I love in my Maui auntie Emi's antique studio.

私のマウイの伯母さん的存在エミさんのアンティークなスタジオで、大好きな感覚に包まれたり。

I attended my friend Wailani and her daughter Lokalia's high school graduation party. Wow! I cannot believe that she was this little 1st or 2nd grader when I first met her. I remember playing cards with her, and I was careful not to win :)

友人であり、昔の大家さんであるワイラニさんの娘さんロカリアの高校卒業パーティーにお呼ばれして行ってきました。ワーオ！の一言。初めて会ったときはまだ小学１年生か２年生だったのに。ロカリアと一緒にトランプしてて、故意に勝たないようにしていたのが思い出される（笑）。

Too funny. I was looking for my jump drive (USB stick) at work. After awhile, I told myself that it would turn out somewhere soon. Where did I find it? ... at the bottom of a disposal beverage cup like this! I saw it when I was about to wash dishes! It did a good job hiding, a little cute thing :D I said,
Hide-and-seek is over now." When I found it, there was this silence between us (the USB stick and me) for about 2 seconds, and then I comprehended what had happened. I started to laugh.

仕事場でジャンプスティック（USBメモリースティック）が見つからなくて「あれ？確かにここに置いておいたのにな」ってしばらく探して、「まぁそのうち出てくるだろう」と自分に言って家に帰ってきて、洗い物をしようとしたら、飲用カップの底に上手に隠れてました！何てかわいい隠れ方。かくれんぼは終わりだじょ。これを見たときは、最初は状況を掴めずにお互い沈黙でUSBちゃんと見つめ合い、2秒ほどたって脳がプロセスしまして、すかさず「あんた、ここにいたの！」って。

Nature is truly beautiful.
自然は本当に美しいね。

Friends invited me for a heartwarming dinner.
お友達が心ほっこりする夕飯に呼んでくれたり。

To show my appreciation for the invitation, I bought these flowers.
お呼ばれしたお礼にお花を持って行ったり。

I love taking a footbath.
洗面台のシンクでフットバスを時々する。

I baked scones with Yasi and Sysy.
ヤスミナとサイラスとスコーンを焼いたり。

I found this at the parking lot in front of Office Max and could not help to gaze at it for awhile. (I think seeds were inside.)
ある全国チェーンの文房具屋さんに行った際、駐車場で見つけて手にとってしばらく眺めたもの。（種が入っていた。）

I love seeing Haleakala in the early morning. No clouds usually cover it in the morning.
朝早くにハレアカラを見るのが好きだ。朝だと雲がまだ出てきてないから、よく見える。

I baked vegetable lasagna.
ベジタリアンラザニアを作ったり。

The color of the middle layer of lychees (It happened to peel this way - showing about the same width of each layer.)

ライチの真ん中の皮の色 （たまたまこんな風に、それぞれの層が均一に見えるように剥けたのです。）

As you can see, it says "Provided for your protection." Whenever I see this, I cannot help to imagine a super hero fighting with this over his or her head. Is it just me?

この便座に敷く紙に「Provided for your protection」（直訳だと、あなたを守るために使ってください）って書かれているのだけど、これを見るために、この紙を頭に被って戦うスーパーヒーロを思い浮かべてしまうのは私だけだろうか。

Maui Matsuri マウイ祭り

The Maui Izanai Yosakoi dancers were asked again to dance at the annual Maui Matsuri, so we did!

毎年5月に行われるマウイ祭りで、また踊ってくださいとの依頼があったので、マウイイザナイよさこいダンサーズ踊ってきましたよ。

Our rehearsal was cheered with a rainbow.
リハーサルは虹と共に。

We did a group choreography, and then I did a solo - Musuhi.

グループで踊って、あと私はムスヒを踊らせて頂きました。

Their theme is For Sake of Children. It matches with Izanai's theme!

毎年呼んで頂いている、マウイ祭りは「子どものために」がテーマです。イザナイと合ったテーマですね。

Things That Happened in April 4月に起こったこと

I have not been able to update this blog for awhile, but I am back :)
Now I am going to summarize what have happened in the month of April, May, June, July, and August. The last entry was about March, so this entry will be about April. Well, with regard to April, please look at the following postings.

I thought that this purple carpet was beautiful.

この紫のカーペットがとても綺麗だなと思いました。

These flowers made the carpet.

このお花がカーペットを作っていました。

When I went to a store, I saw this dog waiting patiently and politely for its owner to come out. Something about this dog touched me heart.

あるお店に買い物に行ったときこの犬を見かけました。飼い主さんが出てくるまで、お行儀良く、辛抱強く待っている様子に心を打たれるものがありました。
