Maui Matsuri 2013 マウイ祭り2013

In May, the Maui Izanai Yosakoi dancers were asked to perform at the annual Maui Matsuri (matsuri means festival in Japanese). I don't know how many years we have performed there... quite many years by now. I used to dance by myself, so it is really nice that I get to dance with this many dancers.

5月には毎年恒例のマウイ祭りがあり、マウイイザナイよさこいダンサー達、お招き頂き踊ってきました。今年で踊らせて頂いたのは何回目になったのでしょうか。結構な数のはず。昔は一人で踊っていましたけど、今ではこんなに沢山の仲間たちと一緒に踊れるのでとても嬉しく思っています。

I was so proud of my fellow dancers for their performance at the festival. They were dancing from their hearts. They have practiced hard, and they have grown so much as dancers... It is always my honor to dance with them. Unfortunately, it started to rain, so we danced inside of a building instead of on a stage outside. The performance time changed, and the positioning changed, but everyone tried their best to adapt to those changes and did a wonderful job.

みんなそれぞれに努力を積み重ねてきた結果が出ていました。心から踊ってくれていました。踊り子として成長されていく姿を見て、私も励まされています。彼女たちと一緒に踊れるのはいつも私の喜びです。あいにくの雨天のため、急遽外のステージからある建物の中での演舞となり、時間も押し、立ち位置も変わっての演舞でしたが、みんなそれらの変更にがんばって対応してくれました。

First, I danced "Musuhi" choreographed by the late Suga Kunitomo, and then everyone danced "Maholoba" again choreographed by Suga.

まず私が「ムスヒ（産霊）」という須賀先生が振り付けをした踊りを踊らせて頂きました。（注：一人で踊るので、それに合わせて少し振り付けを変えさせてもらったところが一部あります。）その後にみんなが同じく須賀先生振り付けの「まほろば」を。

After the festival, the Maui dancers had a party (there were some who could not make it, though). We all gathered at Naoko's and started a fun party. Naoko's husband, Kevin served everyone really yummy cocktails which made everyone really happy. (I could not drink, so I had Harmony Water which was brought by Mika.)

祭りの後は打ち上げ！マウイダンサーズ（来れなかった人もいらっしゃったけど）なおちゃんちに集合し、楽しい宴を始めました。なおちゃんの旦那さんのケヴィンが手作りで色々とおいしいカクテルを作ってくれてみんなご機嫌！（私は飲めないので美香さんが持って来られたハーモニーウォーターをごくごくと。）

In the middle of the party, a massage session naturally started (there are so many massage therapists among the dancers). 

We danced, drunk, massaged, laughed, and had such a great night.

宴の途中ではマッサージ大会までも。（踊り子の中にマッサージセラピストの割合が多いのだ！）

踊って、飲んで、揉んで、笑って、本当に楽しい夜でした。
