The above carrot pickles are from Iku Farm in Kochi, Japan.
My friend Kayo gave me this past March.
I loved the taste - not too vinegarish, not too sweet, and the ingredients
were only carrots, apple cider vinegar, and salt.
上のにんじんのピクルスは高知にあるIku Farmというところで作られたもの。
友人の加誉が三月にくれたもの。
おいしかったです。酸っぱ過ぎず、甘過ぎず。
余計なものは入っていないし。にんじんと、純リンゴ酢とお塩だけ。
After his sister's violin recital, Sy being stoked with this toy race car. We didn't put money in it, so it was not even moving, but look how excited and happy he was.
お姉ちゃんのバイオリンの発表会を観に行った帰り、モールにあったおもちゃのレースカーに乗ってご満悦のサイ。お金を入れずに乗ってただけなんだけど、こんなに嬉しそう。
A week later, there was another violin recital at a different occasion and location.
I thought that it was cute to see these small violin cases lined up.
一週間後には、別のところでまたまたお姉ちゃんのバイオリンの演奏会。
小さな子ども達のバイオリンケースが並んでいる様子がかわいいなと。
After the performance, both kids had a great fun at this jumping castle.
演奏の後は、二人ともこの遊具で思いっきり遊びました。
This is a retro candy can in Japan.
When I found it in Japan this past March, I bought it and brought it back with me to Maui.
After it's all done, I want to use the container as a case for something else.
懐かしのサクマ式ドロップス。
日本で見つけて持って帰ってきておいたのである。
食べ終わった後、この入れ物を使いたい。

５月には友人エイプリルの誕生日がありました。
お誕生日おめでとう！大好きよ。
エイプリルは英語で4月という意味だけど、エイプリルは4月生まれではない。
アメリカではエイプリルとか、オーガスト君（オーガストは８月）とか、
ジャニュアリーちゃん（ジャニュアリーは１月）という月が名前にという人たちもいます。
日本で言えば、「弥生ちゃん（3月）」とか「葉月ちゃん（8月）」と名付けるようなものでしょうか。
I bought these seeds and let them germinate.
これらの種を買ってきて、発芽させました。
At Mana Foods, I bought this specially designed jar.
マナフーズでこのジャー（発芽用の容器）を買いました。
Oh, they are growing!
I rinse them with water twice a day.
The lid is woven, so excess water comes out if I tilt it like this.
育っております。
一日に2回水洗いをします。
蓋が編み目上になっているので、こうして傾けていると余計な水が出ていきます。

These are bananas for cooking. (They are bigger than usual bananas.)
I found them at the Farmers' Market, so I tried.
I simply cooked with coconut oil and sprinkled cinnamon on top.
It was so yummy!
これは料理用のバナナ（普通のバナナより少し大きい）。
ファーマーズマーケットで見つけてきたのでトライしてみた。
ただフライパンでココナッツオイルで焼いて、シナモンをかけただけ。
美味しかった！
I felt like being sucked into the blue sky and this lovely pink flowers one morning at the farmers' market.
ある日ファーマーズマーケットで見かけた木と青空に吸い込まれそうになりました。
Buster (my dance teacher's dog who is like a grandpa) and Roxy, a new puppy who is quite mischievous. Buster is disciplining Roxy well. They get along well due to Buster being patient with Roxy :)
踊りの先生の犬、バスター（結構おじいちゃん犬）と新しくやってきたロクシーちゃん（まだまだイタズラの盛り）。バスターがしっかり躾けています。二人は仲良し。というか、バスターが重い腰を上げて、ヨイショっと言う感じでロクシーの遊び相手になってあげているという感じ。

サイよ、何が見える？
Look what Yasi (almost 9 yrs old) and I did while Sy was taking a nap.
We randomly (without any deep thinking) drew lines and colored in some parts.
I love how children remind me of something I used to love.
サイが昼寝をしている間に、ヤスミナ（サイのお姉ちゃん、もうすぐ9歳）と二人でしていたことはこれ。適当に（考えずにというところがキーポイント）線を描いて、色を塗っていった。子どもって、私が子どものときに好きだったことを思い出させてくれるからステキだ。
One day, as I was driving home, near where I live, two girls from the neighborhood were walking down the street with a flower basket.
I said, "Where are you two going?"
They said, "We're going to pick some wild flowers over there."
Then quickly one added, "I already asked my dad if that would be ok."
Then the other one also quickly said, "I did, too! and he said that's ok."
They were so innocent and adorable.
I wonder when was the last time I asked my dad if I could go anywhere.
Maybe when I asked him, "Can I go to Maui after high school?"
家にもうすぐで着くというところで、近所の女の子二人がフラワーバスケットを抱えて歩いていた。「どこに行くの？」と聞いてみたら「あそこにあるお花をとりにいくの」とのこと。「あらそうなの。車に気をつけて楽しんで」と言う暇もなく、一人が「もうお父さんに聞いて、お父さん行ってもいいって言ったのよ」と言った。そしたらもう一人もすかさず、「私も聞いたの。お父さん、行ってもいいって言ってくれたの」のこと。二人ともキラキラの目で無垢で可愛かった。
「私が最後にお父さんにどこかに行ってもいいかと聞いたのは、果たしていつのことだろう？」とふと思った。「高校を卒業したらマウイに行ってもいいですか？」の時かな。
