On the 6th day (April 25th), I did not take a day off from work. I went to work.
My parents came with me and met my colleagues, principal, and students. My students were expecting, so they were excited to finally meet my parents. My parents gave the children Japanese coins and origami papers and taught them a couple of games that Japanese children play.
My parents said that they were happy to visit the classroom where I teach everyday. They said that they would be able to picture it in their mind better from now on.
Then, they took off by themselves. Before they came to Maui, my dad had requested for an international driver's license for this occasion, so he could legally drive in the U.S., and he has a very keen sense of directions, so I did not worry them getting lost. They apparently went all the way to Kahului and went to Queen Kaahumanu Shopping Center to look for some souvenirs for their friends and then came back Paia to eat lunch, and then came back to the school where I teach to pick me up. Good job!
6日目の4月25日には、私はお休みをとりませんでした。お仕事に行ってきました。
両親も一緒に来ました。他の先生方、校長先生、それから生徒達に紹介しました。私の生徒達は来ることを知っていたので、本当に会えたことに興奮していました。両親は子ども達のために日本の硬貨と折り紙を用意しており、それから日本の子ども達がする遊びを紹介してくれました。
両親も私の勤務先の様子が分かって嬉しかったようです。これから頭の中に描き易くなったと言っていました。
1時間ほどしてから、両親は二人だけで出かけていきました。父はこのために国際免許証を取ってきていたので、アメリカでも合法的に運転できました。土地勘もとても良い人なので迷う心配はありませんでした。カフルイにあるカアフマヌショッピングセンターまで行って、お土産探しをしたそうです。あっぱれ！そしてパイアに戻ってきてお昼を食べて、それからまた私の教えている学校まで迎えに来てくれました。
Then, after school I worked with Emi Azeka, a milliner. I work with her every other week to help with various aspects of her business. My parents dropped me off at her house and since Emi had invited us over for dinner, so they came back after we finished working and had dinner together. Good thing my home is really close from Emi's.
学校の後には私はエミ・アゼカという帽子デザイナーの方の家で働きました。彼女のビジネスをヘルプするため、彼女のところで隔週で働いています。両親に彼女の家でおろしてもらい、前もってエミさんが私の両親を夕飯にお招きしてくれていたので、仕事の後にまた戻ってきもらって４人でご飯を食べました。家が近くて良かった。
It was a day that I could show my parents my regular Maui life.
私のマウイ生活の「普段の様子」を両親にお見せできた１日でした。
