My Parents' Maui Visit - Day 9 両親のマウイ訪問９日目

The 9th day (April 28th) was the last day of their stay. First we visited Swap Meet in Kahului. It is held every Saturday from 7 am to 1 pm. When I first came to Maui (11 years ago), it was located next to the Kahului Post Office. Now, it is next to the University of Hawaii Maui College. 

９日目（4月28日）が両親の滞在最後の日でした。朝はカフルイで毎週土曜日の朝７時から午後1時まで開かれるスワップミートに行ってきました。土曜市みたいなものです。マウイに来た当初は（11年前のことですが）、カフルイ郵便局の隣で開かれていました。今はハワイ大学マウイカレッジの横です。

We walked around for about an hour. My parents found some souvenirs. It was a really hot day. I strongly recommend that you should bring a hat and a bottle of water. We found a nice shaded place and ate lunch there.

約１時間ほど歩き回りました。両親はいくつかお土産も見つけたようです。とても暑い日でした。行かれる際は帽子とお水を持参することを強くおすすめします。気持ちの良い木陰を見つけ、お昼ごはんを食べました。

Because we were right next to University of Hawaii (UH) Maui College, I took my parents to the Maui Language Institute (MLI) which is located on the UH campus. When I first came here, I attended this school for 3 months to study English prior to enrolling in Maui Community College (MCC). Back then, it was not University yet. It was a community college. Then I was hired at MLI as a student assistant and worked there for about 3 years. I have learned so much there and have gained many fond memories.

ハワイ大学マウイカレッジのすぐ横にいましたから、せっかくだからということで、両親をマウイ・ランゲージ・インスティチュート(MLI)にお連れしました。MLIは英語を学べる語学学校です。ハワイ大学マウイカレッジの一環なので、同じキャンパスに存在しています。私が来た当初はまだ４年制大学ではありませんでした。コミュニティカレッジと言う、日本でいう短期大学のようなものでした。MLIで3ヶ月英語を学んだ後、マウイコミュニティカレッジに入学。そしてMLIでスチューデントアシスタントとして雇って頂き、3年ほど働きました。沢山のことを学ばせてもらいました。そして心温まる思い出も沢山あります。

Then we went to Wailuku Coffee Company in Wailuku and took a little break because it was just so hot at the Swap Meet. There, we arranged to see Alice, my Maui mom. We were happy that we could see Alice once again before my parents left. (They saw one another at the Odissi debut ceremony, but they did not spend much time together.) I have been supported by Alice from the day one of my Maui life and more so for the past several months. Before my parents and Alice, tears welled up just because I felt so much appreciation for these people in my life.

それからワイルクにあるワイルクコーヒーカンパニーというカフェに行って一休み。何せ、スワップミートがとても暑かったですから。そこで私のマウイの母であるアリスと落ち合い、両親が帰る前にもう一度みんなで会えてよかったねと語り合いました。（アリスは両親にオディッシィダンスの卒業パフォーマンスのときに会ったが、ゆっくりは話せなかったようなので。）アリスには本当にお世話になりました。ここ数ヶ月は特に。両親とアリスを前にして、涙がこみ上げてきました。３人の存在がとても有り難くて。

Then we went to a beach on Lahaina side to join my friend Nao-chan's birthday party. Nao-chan gave my parents wonderful massages (she is a professional massage therapist), and she kindly invited us. Also, my parents had not swam in the ocean until this very last day, so I told them, "You have to swim before you go back to Japan!" 

それからラハイナ側のビーチに行きました。友人のなおちゃんの誕生日パーティーに参加するため。なおちゃんは両親にもう骨もとろけるようなマッサージをしてくださいました。（彼女はマッサージセラピスト。）そこで親切にも誕生日パーティーに招待してくれたのでした。それにですね、この最後の日まで両親は一度も海に入っていなかったのですよ。私は「ここまで遥々来たからには、入ってから帰らないと！」と説得しました（笑）。

Then we went home, took a shower, and headed to a restaurant in Kula called Kula Bistro with Sarala and Robert. We enjoyed our last evening with my very special Maui family.

それから家に帰り、シャワーを浴び、クラにあるクラ・ビストロというレストランへ、私のマウイの大切な家族であるサララ（インド舞踊の先生）とロバート（サララの旦那さん）と出かけました。マウイ滞在最後の夜はこうして更けていったのでした。
