This summer, I had two opportunities to go to Hana. In June, I went there with my friend Barbara and her family. Three weeks later, at the beginning of July, I was invited to go with my friends whom I have known over the past 12 years - Kaori and Mika, and a new friend named Ravi who was visiting Maui from Aso, Kyusyu. It was a fun trip with my sistahs! (For English learners: sister is spelled s-i-s-t-e-r, but in a fun way, it is sometimes written sistah.)
今年の夏はハナに行く機会に恵まれました。６月にバーバラ家族と行って３週間後の７月の頭、今度はマウイでもう12年以上のお付き合いになる香織さんと美香さんと、そしてその頃九州の阿蘇からマウイを訪れていたラビちゃんと行くことに。お姉様方のデイトリップに便乗させてもらいました。
The first picture of the blog entry is a cute vegan ice cream place on the way to Hana. Their ice cream is made out of coconut milk, not cow milk. Yum! The picture right above and the below are some ornaments I saw at this ice cream store. Cute.
このブログエントリーの一番最初の写真は、ハナに行く途中にあるヴィーガンのアイスクリーム屋さんです。ヴィーガンとは乳製品を使わずに作られた食品のこと。ここのアイスクリームは牛乳の代わりにココナッツミルクで作られています。おいしい！すぐ上の写真とすぐ下の写真は、ここのお店に飾られていたもの。かわいいな。
There was this artistic looking thing right next to the ice cream store. It may not be "functional," but I think the world would be boring if everything had to be "functional." With some playfulness, I see joy in being alive. And actually this thing is highly functional in terms of giving people some curiosity and fun.
古いスクールバスの一部を使って作られた、こんな機能的ではないけど、アートチックなものがお店のすぐ横に。世の中全てが「機能的」なものだけだったらつまらないだろうね。こういう遊び心があってこそ、人間捨てたものじゃないって思う。そして言ってみたら、このアートチックなものの「機能」は人を喜ばせるという点では、とても機能的だ。

The ice cream was served in a coconut shell. The spoon was handmade, too.

We did not exactly know what happened, but this boy who was working at the ice cream store all of sudden took this puppet out and started to entertain us. What a surprise.
一瞬何が起こったのか分からなかったのだけど、このアイスクリーム屋さんで働いていた若い男の子が急に、この操り人形を取り出して一人芝居を始めてくれました。うーん、びっくり！
At that time, we had many rainy days, so this road was covered with water. We crossed it with out feet.
マウイはその頃何日も雨が降っていたので、この道は冠水していました。歩いて渡りました。

Then we visited our friend Yuko in Kipahulu. I admire her life style, and she just gave birth to her second son. Ravi was holding a new baby. I love the smell of babies...
それからキパフルに住む、ゆうこさんに会いにいきました。彼女のライフスタイルに私は憧れます。彼女は最近第二子を産んだばかり。ラビちゃんがその赤ちゃんをだっこしているところ。赤ちゃんの匂いが大好き。
And I love their feet. Cute pees are lined up.
そして赤ちゃんの足の裏も大好き。かわいいお豆が並んでいます。

Our long-time friend, Mayumi also came. (She lives in Kipahulu as well.) She brought this delicious quinoa soup for us.
私たちの長年の友、まゆみさんにも会えました！（まゆみさんもキパフルに住んでいる。）まゆみさんはこのキンワのスープを持ってきてくれました。ありがとう。
My ideal ladies... I am grateful to have these sisters to whom I look up. They are strong, beautiful, and living close to the mother earth. I would say like a little girl, "When I grow up, I want to be like them :)"
私の「こうありたい」と思う理想の女性像。写っていない香織さんと美香さんとまゆみさんもそうだけど、強く、美しく、大地に寄り添って生きてらっしゃるお姉様たちに恵まれ、私は幸せ者です。

If I told you their ages, you would not believe me ;) I wouldn't tell you, but they aged beautifully and healthily. That's another reason why I look up to them.
皆さん、このお姉様方の年齢を言ったらびっくりされると思いますよ。言いませんけどね。皆さんきれいに、健康的に１年１年を得てこられてます。それも彼女達を理想とするもう一つの理由です。
