Jazmyne's Dance Project ジャズミンのダンスプロジェクト

Jazmyne Koch is a young, talented, fueled dancer as well as choreographer who will sure to lead the next generation of dance scene combining her unique heritage, lineage, and dance back ground. 

It was my honor to be asked to join her dance project which she was creating for her last year of schooling at Colorado College. (She was born and raised on Maui.)

She and I had a limited time to rehearse, but we worked together and squeezed three rehearsals in one week. Jazmyne is also organized and professional. Those are just few examples of the many wonderful qualities she has, and I admire and respect that about her especially at her young age. For instance, she video taped each rehearsal and updated to a private YouTube link and emailed me at the end of each rehearsal day. I could watch and see what I needed to work on before the next rehearsal.  

ジャズミン・コーチは、若くして才能に溢れた、次世代を担うダンサー兼コレオグラファー（振り付け師）です。彼女のユニークな民族性（彼女はドイツの血をひくお父さんと日本の血をひくお母さんのもとに生まれました）と多彩な種類のダンス経験を踏まえて。

彼女はマウイ出身だけど今はコロラド大学の４年生。卒業するために提出するプロジェクトとして、ダンスで織り成された短いフィルムを作ることにしたそうです。その中の一つの踊りに、「あかりに一緒に踊ってほしいんだけど」と頼まれました。光栄なことでした。

時間が限られていましたので、二人で協力して一週間の間に何とか３回のリハーサルを入れました。ジャズミンは効率よく物事を進める方法をよく分かっていますし、全ての仕事に対してプロ意識で取り組んでいるところが、彼女の沢山ある良いクォリティー（資質）の一つです。しかも彼女のような若い齢でそれが出来るってすごいと思います。例えば、リハーサルを毎回ビデオに撮り、その日のうちにYouTubeのプライベートリンクにアップロードして、そのビデオを私に送ってきました。おかげで私は次回のリハーサルまでに改善するべき点や「おぉ、ここは上手くいったなぁ」などと勉強することができました。

On Sunday, January 15th, we did a filming with several crews at a sugar cane field near Paia. I met many wonderful people there. It is true that a circle of friends reflect who we are. 

１月１５日の日曜日に、パイアという町の近くにあるサトウキビ畑で収録は行われました。ジャズミンをよく知っているカメラマンさんや、そのアシスタントの方たちが集まっておられました。皆さん本当に良い人たちでした。友達の輪というものは、その人の人柄を表すというのは本当だなと思いました。

First we made a pit fall. No. I'm kidding. The ground was a little too rough for our barefoot, so we put these dried cane plants down.


まず始めに落とし穴を作りました。というのは冗談で、裸足で踊る私たちには地面がちょっとでこぼこ過ぎたので、乾いたサトウキビを敷き詰めたわけです。

This particular dance piece was about one's soul tracing back her lineage and trying to seek her true identity through separation, struggles, rebellion, and finally coming to find peace with where she originated and embracing all... 

When we were dancing in this sugar cane field, I felt as if the past plantation workers were watching us. I danced for them because I wanted show my appreciation for their hard work they did for the next generations to come. I hope that they enjoyed our dance.

私が参加した踊りは、自分の生い立ちや先祖の歴史を振り返りながら、自分のアイデンティティを模索するというもの。その過程には孤立、葛藤、反抗などがあり、そして最後には自分の来た原点を受け入れるというもの・・・

踊っているときに、まるでそのサトウキビ畑でかつて働いていた、明るい未来を夢見て様々な国から移民してきた人たちが観ているような気がしました。その方達のために踊りました。次世代のために、生活を少しでも楽にしてあげたいと思って重労働をされてきた方々にお礼の気持ちを込めて踊りました。楽しんでもらえたことを願いつつ。
